Study information
for participants in lifelong learning at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University
Find out about the most basic things that, as participants in lifelong learning (LLL), you will need to know:
Student Services
You can handle many matters relating to your studies yourself directly via the Information System, but sometimes it may be more appropriate to visit the Student Affairs Office in person. As LLE participants, you will continue to deal with matters relating to your studies with the LLE coordinator at the faculty, who is the equivalent of the academic advisers for students enrolled in standard, full-time programmes.
When communicating by email with the Student Affairs Office, please write from your official university email address ( UČO@mail.muni.cz) to the general address to ensure cover can be arranged in the event of illness, etc. If visiting in person, please go directly to the office of the Continuing Education Co-ordinator on the 2nd floor of Building A during office hours. Office hours are subject to change during the summer holidays.
Information System
Almost all administrative tasks at our faculty can be dealt with online, via the Masaryk University Information System ( IS MU), which is actively being developed at our faculty.
Working with study materials, registering for exams, communicating with lecturers – you can manage all this and more from any device once you’ve logged into the IS. To log into the IS, use:
- UČO (university personal number) – your unique numerical identifier, which you will receive after verification
- primary password – the password for IS MU and other applications using single sign-on, which you will receive after verification (and which can be changed later)
To help you find your way around the IS, you can use this guide .pdf 1.85 MB , the help page directly within the IS or the interactive exercises in the IS Academy.
Everyone has an email account available in the IS with an address in the format UČO@mail.muni.cz, which continues to work even after you have set up a nickname. You should use this address for communication within the faculty and the university; do not use your existing private email addresses for this purpose.
It is compulsory to monitor your university email. You will receive important messages at this address from the faculty management, the academic office, your lecturers and the system itself. You can have your emails forwarded to another permanent inbox.
Make sure to delete messages to ensure your mailbox does not exceed the available storage quota. It will not be possible to send emails to an overfilled mailbox.
Excuses and other procedures
During the academic year, you are required to provide an excuse for your absence from compulsory classes within 5 working days of the date of the class for which you are seeking an excuse. Supporting documentation for the excuse, e.g. a note from a doctor, may be submitted at a later date.
Unlike full-time students on accredited programmes, you should send your absence notifications directly to the faculty coordinator for Continuing Education by email . You should therefore not use the ‘Úřadovna’ application in the IS system for excused absences.
Study and Examination Regulations & Continuing Education Regulations
The Masaryk University Study and Examination Regulations (SZŘ MU) are a key document which sets out the rules for all types of study programmes. It covers the organisation of the academic year, the rights and obligations of students and teaching staff, the administration of study departments and the maintenance of student records in the MU IS.
Beyond the scope of the Study and Examination Regulations, the conditions for lifelong learning at the university are set out in the MU Lifelong Learning Regulations.
Technology at the Faculty of Informatics
Computer labs, faculty login and password, remote access, Wi-Fi… there is a great deal of technology at the faculty. You can find out more about it on the website of the Centre for Computing Technology (CVT).
