Final Examination - Bachelor's Degree
Form of state final examination
The state final examination consists of a defence of the bachelor's thesis and an oral examination. Each part is evaluated with a separate mark. If a student passes only one of these two parts, he/she repeats only the part for which he/she had a failing grade.
Since the spring 2017 semester, the obligation to repeat the final examination has been in force according to the Dean's measures on repeating the Bachelor's State Final Ex amination.
The oral examination is held before a committee. During the examination, the student's task is to respond to the questions of the committee from two randomly drawn questions (one theoretical and one practical; for SOCI and INVS majors, one question is computational and the other is disciplinary).
In case of negative feedback on the bachelor's thesis, the student may waive the defense, accept the "fail" grade and proceed directly to the examination. In case of an unsuccessful defence, it is not possible to withdraw from the examination.
The reason for failing the Bachelor's State Examination is:
- The student fails to explain (even intuitively) any of the concepts explicitly stated in the question wording.
- The student is able to formulate definitions of the terms but is unable to apply them practically even with an elementary example.
- The student knows the concepts explicitly stated in the question wording, but all only at a superficial level, unable to respond to follow-up questions.
- Ignorance from one question (i.e., F-level knowledge) cannot be balanced by brilliant knowledge from the other question.
Language. English written work may be defended in English.
The State Bachelor's examination consists of a defence of the Bachelor's thesis and an oral examination. The entire state examination lasts 35 minutes (approximately 15 minutes defence, 20 minutes examination). The student has 8 minutes to present the bachelor's thesis, and another 7 minutes are devoted to the analysis of the reports and discussion.
