DISA focuses on intelligent processing and search in large-scale, complex, and unstructured data such as images, video, biological structures, and sensor streams. Our research bridges machine learning, data mining, and systems engineering to develop scalable methods for extracting and indexing semantic representations, e.g., high-dimensional embeddings—that enable fast, adaptive search in dynamic datasets.
We address challenges such as semantic similarity search, dynamic indexing, and user-guided retrieval, aiming to improve relevance, speed, and scalability. Prototype systems demonstrate impact across domains including motion analysis in rehabilitation, protein structure search in AlphaFold DB, and cross-modal search for security and forensics.
Our mission is to turn cutting-edge research into practical systems that redefine how complex data is explored, understood, and used in real-world scenarios.
