Statement of Dean Jiří Barnat on the events at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University
Dear colleagues, students and friends,
it is with deep sorrow and disbelief that we have received the news of the tragic shooting that took place today at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. In these moments of sadness and shock, our thoughts turn to you, the bereaved, and to the entire academic community that has been affected by this painful event.
On behalf of the management of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University, we express our deepest condolences to all the survivors, friends and loved ones of the victims. In these moments, it is more important than ever that the solidarity and cohesion of our academic family helps to overcome this enormous tragedy.
We trust that together we will find the strength and courage to face the aftermath of this event with dignity and mutual support.
In light of this tragedy, we also commit ourselves to taking steps to strengthen security at our college to prevent similar events.
We stand with you during this difficult time.
