Brno.AI Meetup brought together research, development and business. FI MU participated
On Wednesday, 2 April 2025, the ninth Brno.AI Meetup took place at the creative hub Kumst in Brno. The event, which regularly brings together experts from development, research and business, this time focused on the practical applications of artificial intelligence - from medicine to transport and e-commerce. Representatives of our faculty presented their projects for the first time.
The presenters shared real examples of the use of AI technologies in their fields, talked about their successes and openly named the obstacles they face. Each presentation also brought a call for potential collaboration - looking for new partners, investors, solutions to technical challenges, or perhaps future Ph.D. students.
Representatives from the Department of Machine Learning and Data Processing at the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University also attended the meetup for the first time:
Assoc. Prof. Vít Nováček presented the activities of his Discovery Informatics Group team in the field of eHealth and the use of AI to support cancer patients through electronic health records. A specific example is an app for breast cancer patients, which he is working on with the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute Brno.
Assoc. Prof. Hana Rudová showed her research in the field of planning and scheduling. Thanks to artificial intelligence, she brings solutions to practical problems such as creating university course schedules, planning mobile robots in a factory or planning vehicle routes. In her call, she focused on seeking research collaborations and offering PhD research in the field of scheduling, such as the scheduling of robotic warehouses.
Assoc. Prof. Jan Sedmidubský presented the VisioTherapy: Supporting physiotherapy treatment with computerised motion analysis project, which resulted in a prototype application for personalised medicine. The current challenges of his team include finding investors for further development of the application.
All three participants agreed on the benefits of the event, both in terms of establishing or renewing contacts and for showcasing the activities that the faculty is undertaking in the use of AI. An integral part of the event is the declared interest in the development of cooperation between FI MU and industry and mapping the possibilities to connect university know-how with the interest of companies and institutions. There were also representatives of other universities, which are increasingly becoming part of the wider AI ecosystem - not only as providers of education, but also as partners for innovation.
Networking after the main programme showed that the AI community in Brno is open and diverse and that the search for a common language between academia, development and business is yielding concrete results.
Thanks to the organizers from Brno.AI for preparing the event and the space for exchange of experiences. We are looking forward to the next meeting!
