Fulbright scholarship opportunities for students and researchers

Explore Fulbright Scholarship opportunities for 2025/2026. Pay particular attention to closures (many are now in the fall) and the possibility of hosting U.S. fellows. Traveling to the United States for research, education, or networking is a great opportunity for students, scholars, and professionals. Here is an overview of the most relevant programs for those interested in computer science. All information can be found on the official website.

    Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship is for students who wish to undertake research or study at Master or Ph.D. level in the USA. This program covers all disciplines, except clinical medicine, MBA and LLM, making it an attractive option for computer science students. The length of the research fellowship is between 4 and 9 months, with a requirement to document an invitation from a visiting university or research institute in the USA.

There are two application deadlines - September 1 for study fellowships and February 1 for research projects. A minimum of an undergraduate degree and a good command of the English language are required.

Fulbright Scholarship for Researchers and Lecturers

For researchers with a Ph.D. who already have experience in research or teaching. The program supports research projects in all disciplines (except clinical medicine), which includes computer science and IT.

The fellowship covers a stay of 3 to 10 months, and applicants need a letter of invitation from the host institution in the USA. There are two categories, postdoctoral (for scientists up to 5 years post-Ph.D.) and senior (for scientists more than 5 years post-degree). The deadline for applications is regularly November 1.

    Fulbright-Masaryk Fellowship

This program is aimed at scholars who, in addition to their professional activities, are engaged in academic and public life (e.g., in the academic senate or in non-profit organizations). The fellowship is open in three categories: junior (for early career scholars), postdoctoral (for scholars within 5 years of earning their Ph.D.), and senior (for scholars more than 5 years after earning their Ph.D.).

This programme is ideal for academics who want to combine a scientific career with wider social activities. The fellowship lasts between 3 and 10 months and the application deadline is 1 November.

    Fulbright Specialist Program

This programme offers a unique opportunity to invite a specialist from the USA for 2 to 6 weeks. It is designed to host specialists in specific fields relevant to the current needs of academic departments. Computer Science faculty can use this program to establish international collaborations or to host seminars and workshops (a short-term stay program of 1-5 days can also be used).

The programme focuses on creating new partnerships, and its conditions are flexible. The application deadline is September 30, 2024, for stays in 2025 (for projects with full funding, we ask the US side to submit early, preferably by September 27, 2024).

    How to apply

All scholarship applications have specific deadlines, so it is important to secure the necessary documents, such as a letter of invitation from the US host institution, in advance. All fellowship programs require a good command of the English language and a carefully prepared research project.

For those working on individual applications, there will be a Q&A webinar on October 2, 2024, 10-11:30 am.

Take advantage of this prestigious fellowship opportunity that opens the door to international contacts and experience.
