I am a computer scientist interested in image processing of n-dimensional images. I have experience especially with image analysis, image registration and image segmentation of interphase nuclei and their parts. I mostly solve applications in the area of image cytometry and fluorescence microscopy with links to human genome research.
I worked on many interdisciplinary projects. My work on some of them is summarized bellow.
Processing of live cell images

A live cell can move on a slide between acquisitions at different time points. The biologists are often not interested in the rotational and translational movements of the whole cell, but only in the changes inside. A point-based method was developed for the suppression of this kind of "global" movement. The robustness of the method was evaluated on both generated and real data. Simulations show that at least seven point-pairs lead to very good results.
Automation of micro-axial tomography

Micro-axial tomograpy is a resolution improvement technique invented at the Kirchhoff Institute of Physics in Heidelberg. Our laboratory collaborated on the automation of micro-axial tomography. I worked on a precise alignment of tilted images acquired by a micro-axial tomograph. A point-based image registration method with precision better than full width at half maximum of the point spread function was proposed and its behaviour was studied on generated data.
Correction of chromatic aberrations

Chromatic aberrations can limit small distance measurements in fluoresence microscopy. I collaborated on the developement and evaluation of a software detection and correction method. Chromatic shifts between given wavelengths depend on the position in the field of view of a microscope. Correction functions are computed from 3D images of fluorescent calibration beads by image analysis and linear and bicubic approximations. The computed transformations can be applied to images of real objects. The stability of the computed functions was evaluated.
Note: The list above is not a complete list of my research work. It contains only examples that I wanted to present on my web page.
