Join us for a short guided tour of FI and explore the interesting corners of our faculty.
We are repeating this block in four time slots with the same itinerary.
Meet in the faculty foyer for the student tours, please arrive at least five minutes before the start time.
Degree Programs Fair
Meet our students from each of our undergraduate degree programs and ask them anything you are interested in learning about studying at FI.
Study Department
The Study Department Officer will be happy to answer your specific questions about admissions that you won't hear answered during the rest of the program.
IQ Testing - Mensa ČR
In cooperation with Mensa ČR we offer the opportunity to take an IQ test at a discounted price on the premises of the faculty. A good IQ test result in conjunction with a good grade point average is one of the ways to avoid the FI entrance exams. If you are interested, you need to register in advance on the Mensa ČR website for one of the dates, on-site registration may not be possible:
The introduction to Science at FI takes the form of a tour of the faculty. These field trips will take place in three time slots (from 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00). In each slot, different labs will be open and you will then be guided through them in turn by our faculty ambassadors.
The meeting point for the lab tours, as well as the student area tours, will be in the faculty foyer.
Tour 1 stations (12:00-14:00)
Graphic Design and Multimedia Studio (AGD+M)
Room C403
We combine graphic design with computer science. We guide students to learn the principles of design in the field of graphic design with overlaps to other disciplines - animation, programming or free creation. You could see our work, for example, at the Prototype festival in Brno.
Laboratory of Electronic Multimedia Applications (LEMMA)
Room S110
The ability to express oneself in cinematic language is a skill that comes in handy in today's accelerating and clip-based world. Guided demonstrations of student film productions will give you an insight into the creative workshop of the LEMMA lab and the Film Festivals organised by the Faculty of Informatics of MU.
Human Computer Interaction & Visualization Lab (HCI&Visitlab)
Room A421
Shared workstation for 2 labs: human-computer interaction and visualization.
The HCI lab deals with new possibilities for human-computer interaction. We are testing and finding applications for technologies such as motion sensing, augmented and virtual reality, and 3D printing. Come and see how the human body can be motion captured or try out how virtual reality learning can take place.
The Visitlab lab designs visualisation methods to help explore and understand context in complex and large datasets. We work with a range of experts in different fields (biochemistry, medicine, education) to provide insight into their data to help speed up or refine their workflows.
Systems Biology and Bioinformatics Laboratory (SYBILA)
Room A418
Building on the interdisciplinary foundation of the applied discipline, a new degree programme in Bioinformatics has been created and will be offered from the academic year 2024/2025. Discover how we are using informatics to discover previously unknown properties of living matter. Computer models of living organisms and entire populations allow us to conduct experiments beyond the limits of conventional experimental research in biology. We need efficient algorithms and new software tools to create, analyse and simulate such models.
Stations in the 2nd tour (14:00-16:00)
Centre for Research on Cryptography and Security (CRoCS)
Room C416
CRoCS is a department focusing on information technology security and applied cryptography. The technical equipment in the lab allows students to gain hands-on experience with current technologies. Our goal is to improve security and privacy through applied research and advanced education for future security professionals. We complement all of this with occasional beer tours, board games, and juggling.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) Center
Room B203
Introducing the Natural Language Processing Centre and its artificial inhabitant, Karl Pepper. We will show how large language models allow Pepper to be creative. We'll give you tips on how you can use LLMs for your own learning and research needs, from learning assistance to a discussion partner. We'll take a look behind the scenes of training fundamental language models and find out what data, methods, and technologies are used to do so. Come be inspired by the future of AI and its applications for everyday and academic life.
Data-driven Systems and Applications Laboratory (DISA)
Room A218
We use AI to efficiently analyze and search complex data, from human movement records to protein databases. In collaboration with our students, we develop not only scalable applications capable of searching billions of objects, but also intuitive user interfaces. Join us to learn how Google Images, YouTube, or our AlphaFind system works.
Discovery Informatics Group (DIG)
Room C220
Information overload is one of the biggest challenges of modern knowledge-based economies. The Discovery Informatics Group at FI MU is exploring how various overlapping fields of computer science, in particular artificial intelligence and machine learning, can alleviate the problem of information overload in areas such as life sciences and news data analysis.
Some of the interdisciplinary research areas we focus on include named entity and relation extraction from unstructured text, multimodal learning on textual, graph and tabular data, recommender systems in healthcare, biomedical data integration, and the application of big language models in discovery informatics. In addition, we are also involved in teaching in areas related to our research and applying our results in collaboration with partners in the field (e.g., Masaryk Cancer Institute or Newsmatics, Inc.).
Stations in the 3rd tour (16:00-18:00)
Center for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA)
Room C408
Come and see how we process and digitally image at FI, whether it's simple photos, images of cells under a microscope, or even MRI scans of the brain. You will also see examples of student projects or theses, and you will be able to try some of the analysis yourself.
Laboratory of Software Architectures and Information Systems (Lasaris)
Room A321
We research critical software systems whose failure could have serious consequences. We develop models of their security, reliability, or mutual trust, and propose efficient methods for their analysis. Our analytical approaches also find application in areas with significant social or societal impact, such as forensic anthropology or the prevention of social exclusion of children.
Into the world with FI MUNI (Erasmus)
Room S110
Did you know that students who have completed a placement abroad during their studies at FI, for example under the Erasmus+ programme, often remember it as the best experience of their studies? Get to know about the opportunities to go abroad yourself!
Nordic Game Friends (Zvěřinec)
Room A220
We are a group of people, not only from the Faculty of Computer Science, who share a passion for computer science, natural sciences and their popularization. Together we organize activities to impart knowledge to high school students in an interesting and fun way and get them excited for further studies. However, we are also behind a number of events for FI students, other university students and the general public.
Our events include the Correspondence Seminar in Computer Science, the K-SCUK Informatics and Biology Camp, the InterLoS online logic competition, the InterSoB city game, or even the Know FI weekend at the faculty premises.
To help you navigate the parallel programme of our Open Day, we have prepared the following table to serve as a timetable for the event:
