based on student suggestions discussed during the spring semester at a meeting between SKAS and the dean, the Building Management installed a filtered water tap in the student kitchen in room C226a during the summer holidays at the dean's request (the room is now referred to as the student day room on a sign near the door by the way). Unlike the small sinks in most of the faculty's restrooms, this kitchen sink allows you to conveniently fill even larger bottles with water, and with filtered water at that. Some people will certainly appreciate that you don't need an app here, unlike some other commercial solutions.

So how does such a filtration system, which can also be found in other kitchens at FI, actually work? According to publicly available information about the product used, it is a water filter that removes chlorine and sediments, prevents limescale formation, and prevents the passage of particles 0.5 µm and larger, which should ultimately reduce any odor and taste of the water. When the tap is turned on, water from the water main flows through the filter cartridge thanks to water pressure, passing through a series of mechanical and chemical sieves inside it. The product should comply with NSF 42 (reduction of aesthetically displeasing contaminants) and NSF 53 (reduction of health-hazardous contaminants) standards.

For the filtration to function properly, the filter cartridge should be replaced after 7,600 liters of water have flowed through it or every 6 months. Since the amount of water drained from this one tap across the entire faculty is likely to be difficult to measure, the filter should hopefully be replaced sometime in January or February 2026 (6 months after installation).
