Hi,

a microwave in which we, students, could heat up our food without violating any regulations has been a long-standing topic at our faculty, an inside joke of sorts. In fact, the earliest reference I have traced on this topic dates back to 2013 from the official Facebook profile of the faculty.

But that's in the past. The current dean of FI, Prof. Barnat, has already spoken positively about the possibility of a "kitchen area for students" during his candidacy for dean (in 2023). And that brings us to the present in 2025:

The project to renovate the first floor of Building C, which besides creating new computer rooms included moving the staff kitchens on floors 2-5, included a modification to the meeting room on the second floor of Building C, making the water supply and drainage operational.

A few administrative steps were then left to be taken, and I'm glad to be able to say that as of June 1, room C226a will officially be a student kitchen with a microwave, which cannot be reserved in the IS, making it freely accessible throughout the day. It should be noted that existing bookings are still ongoing until 31 May, so you cannot count on the room not being occupied by then. Of course, the kitchen will reach its fullest use with the start of Autumn semester, not now in the "middle" of the exam period.

So please let's be considerate of this newly designated student space so that it can serve us for a long time. The possibility of adding a tap for filtered water or adding a second microwave to provide “microwave parallelism” is also in play, depending on the kitchen's utilization.

Faculty staff can use kitchen C224, which is directly across the hall, while the student kitchen C226a will be given a general clean-up before it is opened.
