The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) has announced the 4th public competition under the THÉTA 2 Programme for the Support of Applied Research and Innovation

Objective of the Competition

The THÉTA 2 public competition is aimed at fulfilling the vision of transforming and modernising the energy sector in line with approved strategic policy documents. This objective will be achieved through support for research, development, and innovation projects in the field of energy that focus on improving energy sector governance by public authorities, developing new technologies and systemic solutions with strong potential for rapid practical deployment, as well as advancing long-term technological perspectives.

Structure of the Competition

• Subprogramme 1 (SP1) focuses on topics reflecting the key interconnected trends in the energy sector: decarbonisation, decentralisation, digitalisation, and democratisation, from the perspective of the public interest. It will also emphasise interdisciplinary technical fields, particularly the interactions and integration of the energy sector with other sectors.
• Subprogramme 2 (SP2) is focused on the development of technologies and solutions with rapid practical applicability. Supported technologies and technological solutions should contribute to achieving the Czech Republic’s climate, energy, and environmental objectives, especially in the short- and medium-term. Support will be concentrated in both emerging and traditional areas where Czech research and development is already at the European or global level, or where significant competitive advantages can be leveraged.
• Subprogramme 3 (SP3) is aimed at supporting projects that develop technologies and solutions currently at lower levels of technological readiness (TRL, typically levels 3 to 5) at the time of project submission, where rapid practical application of the results is not expected as the primary outcome.
