FI MU Students Presented Their Research at the European Congress on Digital Pathology
From 17 to 20 June, the European Congress on Digital Pathology (ECDP 2026), one of the major gatherings of the digital pathology community, took place.
The Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University was strongly represented at the congress by members of the RationAI research group.
RationAI is a multidisciplinary research group at Masaryk University that brings together computer science and clinical medicine. One of its main areas of research is digital pathology, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and explainability.
The group is led by Tomáš Brázdil and Vít Musil. FI MU students are also actively involved in its research, giving them the opportunity to work on their own research topics and subsequently present their results to the professional community.

Six Student Posters
At ECDP 2026, FI MU students presented six accepted posters showcasing the results of their research in digital pathology and artificial intelligence.
The following students presented their work:
- Jiří Horák – xOpat: The Digital Pathology Viewer. He also works on this research within the Visitlab laboratory under the supervision of Barbora Kozlíková.
- Matěj Pekár – Beyond Tile Embeddings: A Geometry-Aware Nuclei Foundation Model
- Adam Kukučka – Weakly Supervised Multicenter Nancy Index Scoring in Ulcerative Colitis Using Foundation Models
- Jakub Pekár – Benchmarking WSI Privacy: A Challenge on Linkage Attacks and Synthetic Data Anonymization
- Jakub Pekár – Bypassing the Annotation Bottleneck: A Novel Approach to ITC Segmentation in HDAB-Stained WSIs
- Adam Bajger – Explaining Digital Pathology Models via Clustering Activations

FI MU Also Contributed to the Summer School
Representatives of the RationAI group, led by Jan Obdržálek, also helped organize the pre-conference summer school. As part of the programme, they prepared the Building Trust session, which focused on the explainability of models used in digital pathology.
FI MU students Michal Kišš, Adam Kukučka, and Matěj Pekár also contributed to the preparation of practical workshop materials as part of the Tutorials for a Workshop in Digital Pathology project.
The Congress Also Provided Opportunities for International Networking
The congress also included meetings with international partners from the Medical University of Graz and BBMRI-ERIC, as well as partners involved in the RI-SCALE project.
Participation in ECDP 2026 gave RationAI members not only the opportunity to present the results of their work to the international professional community, but also valuable space to further develop cooperation with research partners from abroad.
