New CS course@FI. Privacy is a human right. Do you know how to defend it?

How does Tor work? What is the darknet, really? How can you protect your privacy online or bypass internet censorship?

The new course, PA232: Privacy and Anonymity Technologies, will introduce you to the principles and tools behind secure communication and anonymous information sharing. You will get hands-on experience with technologies such as Tor, I2P, and Tails, and explore real-world use cases ranging from investigative journalism to the darknet.

The course was inspired in part by the experience of its lecturer, Valdemar Švábenský, who missed having a course like this during his own studies at FI. Today, he considers privacy, anonymity, and freedom of communication increasingly important topics and aims to provide students not only with theoretical knowledge but, above all, with practical skills.

Registration for the pilot run of the course in Fall 2026 is now open Enrollment is limited to 36 students.
