25th Anniversary of the FI Film festival: For the first time in the heart of Brno

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the 25th anniversary edition of the Film Festival organized by the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University took place. This year’s edition brought several exceptional innovations and literally pushed the festival’s boundaries. For the first time, the event extended beyond the faculty premises and ventured into the heart of Brno — to the Velký Špalíček multiplex.

Visitors enjoyed a packed program full of short amateur films created by students not only from Masaryk University but also from other schools across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The screenings featured films that broke boundaries, defied expectations, and challenged conventional norms. Audiences were treated to fresh ideas, original storytelling, and unexpected cinematic experiences that entertained, surprised, and shattered stereotypes.

The festival attracted over 700 visitors. At Velký Špalíček, screenings took place in two halls — KERNUN and MUNI. The traditional part of the program at the Faculty of Informatics included four screening rooms and also a special projection in the KYPO room.

In addition to the films, attendees enjoyed a rich accompanying program. There was a popular photo booth with themed props, behind-the-scenes footage from the shoots, and a film quiz during the breaks. The atmosphere was fantastic, and enthusiastic viewers actively participated in the audience vote for the best film.

The awards ceremony took place in the main KERNUN hall and was live-streamed to all other screening rooms so that everyone could take part. The competition among the films was especially strong this year, but the students rose to the challenge with creativity and professionalism.

The festival concluded with a traditional afterparty, themed “Break It!” this year, which took place at Cabaret des Péchés and wrapped up the festival in style — lasting well into the early hours.
