The Student Union of the Faculty of Informatics is back!
The Student Union of the Faculty of Informatics (SUFI) is officially reborn. Some older students or alumni may remember the club that used to hold annual dances, barbecues, board games and other events. That was the old SUFI. The new SUFI plans dances, barbecues, board games... Doesn't that sound the same? Maybe it does. But you'll know the difference when you attend.
When we set out to rebuild an association with such deep roots, we didn't have to think about what to do. It was clear from the start. We wanted to fill the void left by the covid break. To offer students a chance to relax after a long day of programming. And most importantly, create a space where a joke like, "You know how a webmaster shivers in the cold? H-t-t-p-s-w-w" ...you won't get a strange look, but at least a few chuckles.
Our goal is to connect students across grades and build a community that will enliven faculty life through social and leisure activities. In short, to pick up where the old SUFI left off. It may not always be easy. It may take time. But we are computer science students. When has anything ever been easy for us? Whether it's studying or social interactions. Although, we're pretty good at those.
Over 150 people came to the first barbecue of the year, and the first event of the renewed SUFI. And I'm not making this up, I counted heads here and there throughout the evening. So I might add one more goal for our association: to break down stereotypes.
Let's show that a computer scientist is not synonymous with an antisocial nerd. Let's show that we can have fun. And who knows, maybe one of the next events will be in collaboration with other faculty societies, because if we don't do it alone, no one will get rid of prejudices.
So this is SUFI. A small society with big plans and a lot of work ahead of us.
