    David Pavlik, CIO Kiwi.com – Learning of first principles matters

    We cordiallly invite all to the lecture of David Pavlik, Chief Information Officer Kiwi.com. David graduated at Faculty of Informatics, MU in 2001. He then worked in variety of roles, e.g. in Microsoft, Amazon, Netflix, SpaceX. He will talk about how to be successful in your career and how important is what he learned at Faculty of Informatics. Title: Learning of first principles matters Abstract: To be really successful in your career not only you need to understand the business context, but you need to understand the fundamentals of the domain you are working in. In this lecture, we are going to walk you through multiple examples of how college education was successfully applied in various disciplines at world’s most successful companies. We will talk about the application of building your own grammar, discuss how deep knowledge of statistics can increase the revenue of your business or save lives, and why you should understand programming language principles. The objective of this lecture is to set the context for why it does matter to spend the next few years in college. He then worked in variety of roles, ranging from Service Delivery Lead at Microsoft, Technical Program Manager at Amazon.com, Engineering Manager at Netflix or various software roles at SpaceX. Most recently he is back to Brno and enjoying working as Chief Information Officer with an amazing team of Kiwi.com. The lecture will be given in English.
