Anotace: The common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) is a key model organism in the New World monkey family. However, the lack of a complete, telomere-to-telomere reference genome has meant limited functional and comparative genomic analyses. Here, we present the first T2T genome assembly for the common marmoset, the first for any New World monkey species. We have completely resolved complex genomic regions for the first time, including centromeres, large segmental duplications, and the full sequences of the sex chromosomes. This new T2T assembly provides a contiguous and highly accurate genomic resource, drastically improving upon the previous reference.
Bio: Prajna Hebbar is a PhD student in the Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California Santa Cruz under the supervision of Dr Benedict Paten. She is extremely interested in developing methods for comparative and pan-genomics, with a focus on gene annotation. Her most recent efforts have been towards annotating the human pangenome and building a complete human transcriptome. She is also working to assemble and annotate the complete T2T genome of the common marmoset. She has previously played a key role in the T2T Primates project.
