Ondřej Krajíček: FI is like a home port

At the opening of the 2024/2025 academic year, he received the Silver Medal of MU. He has been associated with the Faculty of Informatics of MU since the beginning of the millennium, when as a student he joined the Bachelor of Applied Informatics programme. Today RNDr. Ondřej Krajíček is a successful teacher, chief strategist of Y Soft and author of several patents in the field of distributed systems, robotics and artificial intelligence. Read his insights from the ceremony and other interesting facts.

At FI MU, he lectures in the Software Quality course, and also supervises student theses. This has been made possible, among other things, by the faculty's long-standing cooperation with Y Soft, one of the founding members of the Association of Industrial Partners of the Faculty of Informatics of MU, where Ondřej Krajíček has been working since the end of his studies. In addition, he holds the position of Vice President of the Board of Directors at the American Chamber of Commerce and is an active member of the Y Soft Ventures team, supporting start-ups of other successful MU graduates.

His contribution is also appreciated by Barbora Bühnová, Vice Dean for External Relations and Cooperation with FI MU Partners: "Ondřej is an example of an expert with the soul of a mentor who cares about passing on his practical experience to students. He has a unique style in which he provokes students to think deeply about a problem and propose their own solutions. He then acts similarly when he raises issues of improving teaching. The Software Quality course in particular was largely created from his input."

On Wednesday 9 October 2024, he received the Silver Medal of Masaryk University from the Rector of Masaryk University as part of the Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2024/2025. We took this opportunity for a short interview:

What does the award mean to you?

It is a great honour for me and proof that the cooperation between industry and the university, based on mutual respect, makes sense and is perceived as important by the university itself. It is also a commitment and motivation for me to continue. When I left the university after graduation, I wanted to maintain and develop the cooperation with the university. When I left the university, I wanted to "give back" something of what it had given me: education, insight, experience. For me, the medal is a certain confirmation that I have succeeded in doing so.

How do you feel about the ceremony?

I was fascinated by its casualness and at the same time its dignity. Rector Bareš delivered an inspiring speech, presented the achievements the university has made and, as is his custom, clearly named what needs to be improved. For me, it is important that I perceive not only the achievements of the university, but also that it has the will to admit its weaknesses and do something about them. Any industrial partner will appreciate this. It is very good that the university is not afraid to talk about it.

How do you view your relationship with FI MU?

The Faculty of Informatics is like a home port for a sailor. I love going back there, it is a source of inspiration and a place where I have spent a part of my life. It fascinates me to watch and be part of its transformation. It's an opportunity for professional growth, whether through teaching or supervising graduate work.

Congratulations on the award and we look forward to further cooperation.
