IntroductionSince the written work teachers receive these days is by and large produced on computer, it makes sense to correct it on computer, return it electronically and avoid the need for anyone to print anything. Two correcting tools are discussed here, representing quite different models of correction. The first describes some of the components of Microsoft Word, especially Track Changes, and the second is a piece of software developed specifically for this purpose called Markin. Correcting work in Track Changes in Word differs from using Markin, in that the former is mainly a facility to provide a better (correct) alternative, more akin to proofreading. Markin is a tool to highlight errors and identify the type of error. This encourages students to find better alternatives themselves and resubmit an improved text.
