Using English for Academic Purposes This site was created by Andy Gillet of the University of Hertfordshire. It contains a great deal of practical advice about academic writing. And there are exercises with answers. Of particular interest:

  1. Functions, e.g. Describing processes and developments, Classifying/categorising.
  2. Paragraphs including instructions about Topic sentences and information flow in text.
  3. The vocabulary of questions. This is intended for students who have to write essays in English - the vocabulary is worth studying regardless of your needs.

EFL Writing: Product and Process This webpage, richer in content than design, was created for teachers. However, the writing problems and their solutions that this offers is well worth students studying.

The following two sites come from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY.
