During the years 2000--2002 I lived in Wellington, New Zealand;
holding a postdoc position at the Victoria University there.
My flat was right opposite to the University, on a hill above Aro valley,
and with a magnificient view of Wellington city centre and the harbour.
I should say that New Zealand, and Wellington especially, is a really great place for living, go there and see it yourself! Will I return there somewhen in the future?
One sure reason to visit New Zealand is to see its incredible and diverse nature.
Not only the advertised and thus crowded touristic spots (like Nelson lakes
shown here), but also many hidden quiet places in vaste mountain regions are
surely worth to visit and enjoy in their best.
You may hike there for days without meeting anybody else!
BTW, do you recognize some of the sceneries from Lord of the Rings (Kahurangi, for instance)?
Besides beautiful mountains, there is much more to see in New Zealand: the native Maori culture (strongly supported by contemporary NZ authorities); or those many picturous volcanic activities - whole NZ belongs to most geologically active areas in the world.
