    About my life...

I better warn you, there is not much interesting to see here. You will find much more to read about there on my academic position and scientific research pages.

So, you have been warned enough, and now the boring personal stuff about myself begins.

I was born on October 14, 1971, in Ostrava in the northeast part of Czech Republic. After attending basic (~elementary) schools in Ostrava and the high school in Bilovec, I studied computer science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University - the oldest university in central Europe. Already since my high school and university studies I have been interested in discrete mathematics and its applications in computer science. So, not surprisingly, I have started my academic career in mathemtics and theoretical computer science.

From 1998, I have spent almost 5 years at universities abroad, two years in USA, one in Canada, and another great two years in New Zealand. Now I am back at home, partly back in Ostrava (CS FEI VSB, CZ), and more often in Brno (FI MU Brno, CZ) with my family.

    About my interests

I love nature, woods, mountains, backpacking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. My parents own a beautiful cottage in Jeseniky mountains (northern Moravia), and I must say I had spent a splendid part of my childhood there. I also like to travel - thanks to my academic work I have visited many nice places in Europe, and around the world. (Could you believe one can attend a real CS conference in Nepal?)

And, of course, I love computers! Who would not, with all the exciting development of new technologies, right? Linux -- where do you want to go tomorrow? For me, a computer is like a lovely toy, and my work allows me (or forces me?) to "play" with it for whole days...
