Call for Papers Advances in Formal Concept Analysis for Knowledge Discovery in Databases (FCAKDD) Workshop at the 15th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence Lyon, France, July 22-26, 2002 Workshop Goals The main purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from the database, data analysis and machine learning communities who are working on or are interested in (concept) lattice structures. The current state of the art in the respective domains will be discussed together with the future trends in the development of the lattice based approaches. The workshop will address the general principles and methodologies for the development of (concept) lattice-based knowledge discovery methods and tools. Hence, we are inviting papers describing original contributions to the theory and practice of concept lattices for KDD and more generally, for modeling and managing conceptual structures. The workshop will focus on, but is not limited to, the following topics: - Formalizing KDD tasks by means of lattice theory - Efficient mining algorithms based on lattices - Scalability and complexity of lattice algorithms - Computation and revision of concept lattices - Reduction of the lattice size (approximations, zooming, irreducible elements, ...) - Interpretation of the concept lattices and their structures - Iceberg concept lattices and concept lattice views. - Lattice drawing algorithms - Application of concept lattices to different types of data (boolean, many-valued, symbolic, numerical, semi-structured, ...) - Lattice-based knowledge representation and modeling (DL, UML, ...) - Real world application of concept lattices - Philosophical foundations for KDD Results should be demonstrated, whenever possible, through examples involving practical_ applications of concept lattices for knowledge discovery (Biology, Genetics, Social Sciences, Banking, ...). Preference will be given to recent theoretical and algorithmic contributions to KDD based on concept lattices. Intended Audience This workshop aims at bringing together members of different overlapping communities that share concept lattices as a kernel for developing knowledge discovery from data methods and tools: - Database researchers who use lattices for generating irredundant association rules, functional and approximate dependencies, accurate classification rules and Datacubes. - members of the machine learning and knowledge representation communities, developing or using lattice-based systems. - members of data analysis, knowledge modeling and management communities, with an interest in formal concept analysis. This will give an opportunity to push further the discussion upon the potential of concept lattices for Knowledge Discovery in Databases across these communities. To encourage interaction and a broad exchange of ideas, the workshop will be limited to 40 participants. Participants will be selected based on refereed submissions, or alternatively on a statement of interest, or by invitation. Workshop attendees must register for the main ECAI conference. How to contribute We invite submissions of technical papers (12 pages) and short position papers (two pages). Format requirements for submissions of technical papers are: ? maximum 12 pages, Although no particular format for submission is required, we recommend to use directly the format requested for camera-ready copies (see http://ecai2002.univ- lyon1.fr/show_en.pl?page=en/cfp/style.html). ? All submissions should be made electronically if possible, by email attachment and preferably in Postscript or pdf format. Only if electronic submission is impossible should you send three hardcopies. ? All submissions must be sent to the workshop contact, Michel Liquiere, at liquiere@lirmm.fr or Michel Liquiere, LIRMM, 161 Rue ADA, 34392 Montpellier Cedex 5, France.
