Information Technology Security

Field of study: Information Technology Security
Responsible person: doc. RNDr. Václav Matyáš, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Responsible workplace: Department of Computer Systems and Communications

This study field gives the student a thorough knowledge of security in computer systems and networks, of cryptography and its applications. The study covers courses from coding and theoretical cryptography to management techniques for IT and its security. The primary emphasis is set on preparing such a graduate that will be able to work in different roles critical for supporting IT security – a concrete profiling, e.g. oriented more toward cryptography, technological aspects or security management, is driven by the student.

Tuition structure

Structure of courses depends on the fact whether the student graduated on Bachelor’s degree programme Computer Systems and Data Processing, orientation IT Security. Structure of master study field is prepared for these students to complete obtained knowledge and on the other hand also for graduates in any different bachelor programmes.

Total list of subjects you can find in electronic study catalogue. We can mention at least the following subjects:
  • Advanced topics in information technology security
  • Postgraduate seminar on IT security and cryptography
  • Laboratory of security and applied cryptography I a II
  • Team Project Leadership
  • Applied Cryptography
  • Information Law
  • Supercomputer Architecture and Intensive Computations

Laboratory

For students is prepared the Laboratory of Security and Applied Cryptography (LaBAK) where they can prepare their diploma thesis and also work on different projects. Laboratory offers the students to put brain to security of computer networks (wire and wireless), security of chip cards and their cryptographic applications, biometric authentication and using of cryptography for design and operation of security systems. Laboratory participates in Network of Excellence FIDIS (Future of Identity in the Information Society) funding by European Commission.
