  • The proposal is addressed to the Dean of the Faculty and sent by the applicant to the following address: Fakulta informatiky MU Brno, Office for Reseach and Development, Botanická 68a, 602 00 Brno
  • Should the applicant fail to submit all the information required, even after a new deadline is given, then the Dean will terminate the habilitation procedure.
  • The Departmental Board proposes members of the habilitation committee and the committees' chairman to the Dean.
  • The Dean submits the members and the chairman of the habilitation committee for approval by the Scientific Board of the Faculty. The habilitation committee consists of five members. The chairman has to hold the title of Professor and at least three committee members are required to be teachers from other universtities.
  • The habilitation committee activities are led by the committee's chairman.
  • The habilitation committee appoints three opponents of the habilitation thesis. Only one opponent is allowed to be a teacher at MU and only one opponent is allowed to be the candidate's colleague. Each opponent is provided with a copy of the thesis, a list of publications and other documents in the accordance with clause (g) Section 2. The opponents are required to produce written standpoints within two months from receiving the copy of the thesis and deliver it to the committee's chairman.
  • The habilitation committee invites the candidates to present a public lecture of approximately 60 minutes duration, the purpose of which is to demonstrate the pedagogical skills of the candidate. Public lectures are usually attended by habilitation committee members. The date of the lecture must be announced at least 15 days in advance. The candidate is required to submit a title and an abstract of the lecture to the committee.
  • Based on the submitted materials and the public lecture, the committee considers the scientific and pedagogical competence of the candidates for the given area, together with their teaching experience. The following criteria are taken into particular consideration:

    • publication activity at the national level,

    • experience in the supervision of thesis work,
    • preparation of study books and texts,
    • involvement in national or international companies and organisations.
  • Based on the opponents' reviews, the quality of the thesis is considered. The habilitation committee makes a decision on the habilitation appointment by a confidential vote. Should the majority vote be against the appointment, the committee proposes terminating the habilitation procedure.
  • Having made the decision the committee agrees on the substantiation of the decision. The decision and the substantiation are presented by the committee chairman or by an appointed committee member to the Scientific Board of the Faculty as part of the habilitation debate.
  • The habilitation debate proceeds in the following manner:
    • Following the Dean's proposal, The Scientific Board appoints two reviewers,

    • candidates present their habilitation lectures (30 mins), in which they focus on their previous scientific work in the field,
    • the habilitation committee chairman presents the substantiation of the committee's decision,
    • the habilitation committee chairman introduces the result of the opponents' reviews,
    • the habilitation thesis is defended by the candidate, particularly against the thesis reviews,
    • the habilitation appointment is debated (in a public forum),
    • A closed debate proceeds in the following manner:
      • Reviewers present their standpoint regarding the candidate's scientific competence,
      • followed by a general debate
      • and confidential voting, resulting in the decision on the habilitation appointment.
